Why Burly?
Burly Holds are natural wooden climbing holds crafted by Yukon climbers using locally sourced Spruce and Poplar burls. Burls are knobby outgrowths found on tree trunks and branches known for their beautiful patterns. We search for and select specific burls from trees that were killed in the natural fire cycle that regenerates the boreal forest.
Unlike other wooden holds, ours are not milled or machined from blocks of wood. Instead, we preserve the natural shapes and textures created by the tree itself. This means that no two holds are alike. Like an art piece, each hold is given a unique name reflecting its qualities.
Our holds are famously skin-friendly and durable thanks to the circular grain of burl wood. We are pleased to offer a product of professional quality for fresh and creative route-setting. Shapes not limited by human design expand the climbing experience.
